I think most people who have known me for a long time, would say that I have some pretty fun hair. Although I don't really experiment with anything crazy anymore, I did at one point take a few more chances when it came to hair color, length, and style. From a short blonde inverted bob, to a shade of purple-ish black in college, I am sure I will look back one day and ask myself what I was doing. Actually, I am already wondering that.

Although I may not be in the same frame of mind I was 10 or 8 years ago, I always remember making choices that made me feel good. I always wanted my hair to be a reflection of me, and I never really care what anyone else thought, and I still don't. Even now, at 29, I make choices for my hair based on what makes me feel beautiful and confident. 

It's now 2016, and my hair is a huge part of who I am. I love the confidence it brings me, and how great I feel when I am taking care of myself and my beautiful long locks. When was the last time you looked at your hair and said "hey hair, thanks for being you!" Not often I'm sure.  It took me years to truly understand and appreciate my hair for all that it is. I always had wavy/messy curls that never looked right, and for years it frustrated me. I have never been the girl who can get out of the shower- and air dry with no issues. It's always been a work in progress for me. I would constantly wear my hair up because I couldn't deal with how my hair handled humidity or any kind of rain situation.

I finally decided to start loving my hair and realizing that there are so many great things about it. I love how thick and wavy it is, and I also love the wavy curly ringlets that come along with it. Even though they aren't tame like I want them to be- I wouldn't have it any other way. I know most women want what they can't have, but it's time we all start embracing what we were born with. Loving something about yourself can seem difficult, especially when you don't feel like it's what you want. My best advice? Learn to roll with it. If your hair is wavy in the wrong ways- start using products that help keep it looking shiny and great. 

In the last few years I have learned how to tame my waves, and it's made so much of a difference for me. Although my hair may not be perfect- I think it's pretty perfect for me, and that's all that matters.

A Letter To My Beautiful Head Of Hair

We all have a love/hate relationship with our hair, here's my story..

Dear Hair,

It's been a long road, with you and I. We've had some great times, and some awful times. Most of the times I would like to remember, but there are some I don't mind forgetting. As I sit here and reminisce about our relationship, I want to remind you that I will never go back to 16-year old Maria ever again. I'll never bleach you, or get highlights that are orange-red. I will never dye you a black-maroon color ever again because my punk rock emo days are over. I also will never be cutting straight across bangs again, because we both know it just didn't work for either of us.

Hey guys! I am so excited to team up with Goody and to share this easy top knot tutorial with you today! For a lady always on the go this look is perfect! I always find myself running out the door with no time to tame this crazy mane. A top knot is a fashionable and classy way to dress up a simple outfit. I love this look, especially when I am going shopping or heading to work. 

First, tie your hair up in a high ponytail using an elastic band. The Quikstyle Paddle brush is perfect for this look because it is great at removing the water out of wet hair fast. If you have a lot of hair (like me) you'll know how frustrating it is to wait for your hair to dry. It takes me a really long time to dry my hair and even blow-drying can be exhausting. Next start twisting your pony tail and wrap it around where you hair is tied. Once you've gone all the way around, start using your bobby pins to keep everything in place. Easy peasy right?

Let's Talk Hair

I get asked a lot of questions about my hair and what products I use so I figured it'd be a good idea to do a post about some of the products that are my favorite. Bed head is definitely one of my favorite brands for shampoo/conditioners but also sprays and serums. I really like the scent of everything they have to offer and it leaves my hair feeling nice and renewed. As far as other products go, I usually put a serum in my hair right when I get out of the shower. My hair tends to dry up quickly so if I don't it stays dry on the ends which doesn't look good at all. I started using this Oscar Blandi daily silk serum which is great for ends and giving your hair that overall shine.

Something I also started using that I didn't before is a before spray for heat products. Any time you curl/blowdry/flat iron your hair you're causing it to dry out even more. It's important to protect the hair with a spray that keeps your hair moisturized and not dry. Not Your Mother's Beat The Heat spray is great because you can spray it on air dried hair, and it doesn't make your hair greasy or gross at all!

As far as hairsprays go, I love bed head "masterpiece" & chi "helmet head." These are the only two hairsprays that don't cause that funky chunky thing that most hairsprays too, the hold is enough to keep them in place but not make me look like I'm going to prom.

All of these products can be found at Marshall's which is great when you're on a budget. Hair products can be very costly so any way to limit my monthly hair bills is definitely a plus. I have been using most of these products for years so I stand by them in saying that they truly work, and provide the best results for me personally.

Everyday Beach Curls

Bang Style Light Sea Salt Mist has become my go to hair product. In the Summer I hardly have the energy to do my hair, let alone straighten or curl it every day. I use this mist for the on-the-go hair days, or the days where I just want slight loose curls in my hair, and of course volume. I think my favorite part about the product is the scent, I love the way it smells, and how my hair dries after I spray it on my hair when I get out of the shower. A little bit goes a long way, so all you need is a few spritzes and you're out the door, what's better then that? 

Not a thing!
