And Days Went By Like Paper In The Wind

Details: The Meydan Horserace Dress/ Courtesy of Sugarlips , Wedges/ Marshalls ,Glasses-Rayban

The weekend seems like such a blur already, and even though I usually have Mondays off, this week I am working a pretty normal schedule. I had off for Father's Day which was nice because I finally got to be home on a weekend day, and relax with nothing to worry about. I even slept in a little bit which felt so peculiar, but it was well needed. It took me almost two weeks to kick that cold, but it's finally out of my system, and I couldn't be happier.

I haven't been having the easiest time as of late. The transition of changing careers and going back to school has my mind in all kinds of craziness. One minute I feel sure about the steps I need to take, and other times I feel stuck on whether or not I am sure about what it is I want/need to do. It's scary taking a big risk and not knowing the final result, but it's all a learning process and I need to remember that sometimes when I get really hard on myself about decision making. Sometimes I choose to daydream about things because it's the only thing I find comfort in anymore, it allows me to feel like I can be where I want to be without any consequences of choosing the wrong path. Even though we all know there is no such thing.

I think what I really need is some time on the beach, preferably with a drink in hand. The sooner that happens, the better! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend, and I hope you spent it with people you love.

mars, don't fret, we all feel that way sometimes, like we're so confused about life and what we should do or where we should go, but i promise everything will work out! and if you thought before that you should be going back to school, then you were probably right! i know you'll do fine :)

  4. Honestly, what you talk of sounds so so normal. I love how you write it out though! Everyday of a young person's life (and maybe even an older person's life) is filled with discovery, questioning, and doubt. I truly feel like the winners in life are those who overcome the doubt to follow their heart. Whenever I am truly stuck, I muster up the courage to take the step (there is always another action step) that I DO NOT want to take...then I do it and everything starts to move again.

  5. You look gorgeous, I love your dress!

-Sometimes life seems so overwhelming, but I can assure you that what seems like a mistake is usually an experience (lesson) that we have to learn, and it feels like we have made the wrong choice or taken the wrong path but that is what shapes us into a better person (or maybe worse person), but that is one path that is only up to us to choose.

  6. The entirety of your outfit is summer PERFECTION! And I do hope your career transition goes well :) I watched my sister endure that mess (nursing to occupation therapy) but now, she's the happiest she's been!

  7. Just remember that no matter the outcome, FIT is just part of the path and doesn't need to define the rest of your life (unless it's supposed to). And I can be bossy like this because I'm older ;). Seriously though, it bothers me how our society forces young people to feel pressured into figuring out what to do with the rest of their lives like there will never be any room for transformation or different paths later. I studied Acting in college and I remember feeling so pressured to make the decision about it, worried that if I ended up evtually wanting to do something else, it would be a waste. Obviously I am not an actress, and decided to design clothing instead. Then much later, decided to blog and create a line of prints. I don't regret studying theatre at all because it was an incredible learning experience, I just wish I hadn't felt so much pressure back when I was studying to feel like it was "all or nothing." No matter what comes out of FIT for you, it's going to open new doors and be a really exciting learning experience for you. You'll be able to use what you learn there in so many different fields. So think of it as an adventure, and enjoy it! I know it's scary, but it's going to be amazing. Love, your bossy older friend, Melissa

  8. I love this dress. My favorite thing about summer is just doing simple outfits like this one. I'm currently living in a state of transition, too, and it is not easy. But I think the thing that keeps me going is knowing how amazing it will be to reach my goals and the experience gained while working towards that. I'm sure that is what will be most memorable for you as well! It's so scary but it's also so very exciting! Don't forget you have the whole blogosphere cheering you on! You can so so do this!

  19. Maria, this blog is so wonderful. I read it as one of my "mental breaks" from Barbri studying.

I went through similar vacillating phases of doubt and excitement before moving out here to California. And they don't automatically go away--sometimes they'd kick in again when I was home on a break. But for me, the biggest source of strength came from the phrase "What if...?" I was more afraid of looking back at my decision to NOT take the leap and asking "what if" I had up and moved to CA than I was of the pre-move and pre-law school jitters.

And ta-da! Everything worked out in the end. I'm so happy for you. Seems you really found your niche. (Naturally I'm biased b/c my parents went to FIT.) I look forward to reading about your adventures on this blog!

  20. I feel like I'm in that same emotional headspace in my life too. Wondering if these are the steps I need to take or not. Good luck as you continue to transition.

And, hey, with dresses like this, you will be the best dressed person where ever life takes you :)
