Midnight In Paris

"I don't get here often enough, that's the problem. Can you picture how drop dead gorgeous this city is in the rain? Imagine this town in the '20s. Paris in the '20s, in the rain. The artists and writers!"

For those of you who have not seen Midnight In Paris you are surely missing out. Although it took me three full tries to finally finish the movie(I have a problem not falling asleep when my body hits a couch) I truly enjoyed it. For those of you who know me well there is one place in the world I would love to be, and that is Paris. When I visited Paris a few years ago I fell in love with the city and everything in it. Not only do I love Paris, but I also am obsessed with learning French, I have probably been saying since I got back, and yet I have never followed through with it.

Anyway, back to the movie. The main character [Gil] is obsessed with different eras and times of the past. Throughout the movie I completely saw myself in this character, especially when he spoke of Paris in the 20's, and how he would love to walk around in the rain. Gil found himself most comfortable in these different eras and times. It reminded me of myself for a few reasons:

1. I would love to be in Paris during the 20's.
2. I definitely picture myself being born an old soul
and feeling like I should have been born in another era.
3. The whole hopeless romantic thing-loving cities in the rain-thing.

The movie is lovely, and if you feel like you long for past eras, then you will definitely love this movie. Besides the reasons listed above, I also love the style in the movie. Since the movie shows different eras they also show the fashion during that era, and it's so inspiring and beautiful. Give it a chance, and report back, I promise you will not be disappointed!

"Nostalgia is denial - denial of the painful present... the name for this denial is golden age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one ones living in - its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present."

  11. love this movie! it's definitely one of my favorite woody allen flicks especially because i htink so many people live in nostalgia in this day and age that people feel stifled in creativity. Great post and I'm glad you loved it so much!

  14. I basically think this movie was created in order to get people to move to Paris. I've never been and I literally am in love with the idea of moving there. Great post!

  19. I went to see this film with my boyfriend and we were so in love with it! At night while we were walking the dog I wouldn't stop talking about how much I wish I was walking the dog beneath the parisian lights and how lovely it would be if it started to drizzle !

When the dvd was released me and my boyfriend bought each other (not knowing it, of course) the dvd for Christmas and then he had to exchange his for other film!

So, this is definitely the film that marked 2011 for me!
