Is That A Mermaid?

Funniest story about this dress thus far is definitely going to take these photos, being across the field from about ten 6-7 year olds and hearing them whisper to each other "Is that a mermaid, wait...is that ARIEL the mermaid?" "Wait, no her hair isn't red, maybe it's her sister." My mom and I got a huge laugh out of that. It's definitely funny seeing people's reactions when I am running around the neighborhood taking pictures. It used to be even weirder when it was just me and my tripod, but with this new camera, I still haven't figured out how to use the remote, so that's been put on hold at the moment.

I can't believe May is only two days away! This weekend is Greek Easter so it's a big week in my family, and for Greeks everywhere really. My Mom is going to be busy cooking/baking all week to prepare for Sunday, and it's honestly one of my favorite days of the year. What is better than food, friends, family and being outside? Not much I tell you. It's always something fun to look forward to, and it always reminds me of how lucky I am to be surrounded by such great people; friends and family alike. It's funny how many things you can remember when holidays come around, for me it's usually one specific time in my life.

One thing I remember vividly as a kid, was spending Easter in my Grandma's little village and lighting off firecrackers and sparklers with the other kids who came every weekend to visit their Grandparents. We would sit outside the tiny church down the street, singing and dancing as loud as we wanted, and the next morning, we would eat until we couldn't move, and play outside all day long. It's funny how you don't realize how much life is going to change, and how complicated things get over time. Sometimes I wish I could go back and remind myself to stay young and innocent and not try to grow up so fast. But then again, who doesn't want to be a grown up? It all seems so magical, until you realize the responsibility that comes along with it. And once we're here we yearn for the simpler days, when the only thing that mattered was playing outside with your friends and being happy.

  1. Aw kids are so funny! I once overheard a kid tell his mom I must be from California because of how I was dressed and I must have flown in JUST to visit the Philly aquarium :P Oh p.s. Greek Easter sounds like such a great time!

  5. I LOVE THIS! I have a mild (intense) obsession with mermaids. I will be starting my complete mermaid sleeve this summer - July to be exactly. So stoked. And the Little Mermaid on broadway is coming to Kansas City in July, which I already have tickets too. Love this outfit post. Did I say that already? :)

  11. So pretty!! You do look like a mermaid! How adorable. And I know exaaactly what you mean about how being a grown up seems so magical as a kid... and then when you are grown up, all you want is the magic of your childhood. Sigh. :)
