Little Snowflakes

Waking up and wondering if it's snowing is one of my favorite things. Rushing up out of bed and finding huge snowflakes coming down is probably the best surprise in the whole world. I have been pretty sick these past few days, and with an upcoming trip this weekend, I am praying that I feel better very soon. It's crazy how quickly the time has passed and how we're already almost in December! With my birthday nearing in just a few days I am starting to feel like those old people who say "I don't know where the past ten years have gone."

It's true though. Slow down, time. Snow days used to mean wrapping yourself up in forty different layers and braving the cold world that was outside. Throwing snowballs, making snowmen and snow angels. Now it just means being cold and wanting to stay in the house under the covers. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those days and remind myself to really take it all in. Not to take it for granted and want to grow up so fast.

These are the things no one tells you.  That birthdays, Christmas mornings, and digging around for Easter eggs...All of these things lose their luster. It's almost like they change form. You grow and you become a different person who still loves those things, but they just aren't the same as they used to be. The excitement comes more as a feeling, a love , and appreciation for a certain holiday or occasion. Mostly everything in life is like that.

If I have learned anything it's that you have to be present in every moment. Enjoying the little things makes all of the big things even better.

It's not about presents, it's not about how much money you spent. It's about how you felt. That's something you won't ever forget.

Presents become intangible things. Memories. You can't hold them or use them. But you can remember them as many times as you'd like.

  27. Happy Early Birthday, lady!!!

You look amazing and I am super jealous of your camera, I really love these shots!

I'm a big kid... I don't think that will ever change. :P I will run outside in snow, not even dressed appropriately (for the weather... I obviously have never ran outside nekkid!) and just plop down or twirl in the snow. And birthdays are a huge ta-do. I do love gifts, but not in a gimme MUST HAVE kind of way, but more in the "this is from someone special, someone who I love, who loves me and cares about me" kind of way. So I truly treasure 'em. :)

    I love this post.
