Since I turn 26 in a few weeks, I have been spending a lot of time reflecting, and thinking about where I thought I'd be at this point in time. Birthdays are good for that, a good chance to sit back and think about where the past year went, how much you've changed and where you want to go from here. I like to think of it as a mini reality check. I always think back to my elementary school days when the teachers asked us to write out our goals for the next ten, fifteen, and twenty years. Of course most girls wrote "married with twelve kids, dream job, living in mansion on the beach...etc." I was no exception to this. Clearly, I am not married with twelve kids, my dream job is in the works, and that mansion on the beach is a house in New Jersey.
That's just fine though. I am not complaining. It's just funny how things never turn out how you expect. Life works out in weird ways, but I trust that things are going in the right direction even though I may not be exactly where I envisioned. Sometimes I get frustrated that my life is constantly all over the place, busy and chaotic, but right now that's what it is. I get most annoyed when I feel swallowed up by all of the work that needs to get done, or when I can't do everything I hoped I would do. I hate it all.

If there is one thing I have learned in my twenty five(soon to be twenty six) years of life, it's that you will always have something to work towards. Nothing is ever going to be handed to you, no one has it easy, and no one's life is perfect. Enjoy the imperfections and ride the freakin' wave. All you can control is your reaction to it all, and if you're not there yet, you will be eventually, right? When you find yourself frustrated take it easy, and breathe. You're not alone in this, trust me.
That hedgehog sweater is so cute!

I love what you have written here about time and dreams. Like you said birthday's are always good check points to see how much further you have come to living your dream. I think having imperfections in our life makes us truly grateful for the beautiful things we have in life. Have a great birthday!

ReplyDeleteGoodness. . .yeah, I don't think any people I knew ever wanted more than 4 kids. I have two friends with 3 kids though so far! Anyway 26 is a great age and I am glad that you are content with where you are! That is important!
