Hey everyone, I have been somewhat absent this week, and as most of you have seen on the news, things have been pretty crazy on the east coast this week. There has been utter chaos everywhere, with uprooted trees, mass transit underwater, families without homes, and so much devastation, that it hurts to even think about. It's been a devastating week, especially seeing the destruction of places that I have grown to love throughout my life. Most of the Jersey shore is destroyed, a lot of homes completely gone and people left shocked and shaken up. It all makes me very sad. I have been glued to the news, and I have been keeping in touch with all of my friends and family making sure that everyone is okay.
I want to thank everyone for your tweets, emails, and messages asking how I am holding up, it's truly appreciated. My family and friends are all safe, some without power, but still trying to make the best of what they have right now. I know a lot of NJ is either under water or still out of power, and my thoughts are definitely with those individuals. There are so many people helping out throughout the area, and so many people who have been saving lives this week, those people are true heroes in my eyes. Langone Medical Center in NY had their generators fail the night of the storm, and there were nurses who had to carry out newborns and bag air into their lungs. Stories like this shake me to the core and show me how amazing and selfless people are.Also, I am not sure if you guys saw some of the photos from the aftermath of the storm but this site has some crazy photos you need to see.
Today was the first day I actually drove around to see some of the damage done in my area, and everything seems so eerie and glum at the moment. The sky is dark, and the weather is brisk and cold. People are frustrated, hoping for power, and some kind of normalcy at this point. I hope everyone is doing okay out there. What a horrible way to end October right? It's a good thing tomorrow is the first of November. Hopefully this will all seem like a bad dream in a few weeks. Stay safe friends. xo

ReplyDeleteSoo glad to hear you and your loved ones are all safe! I left the house for the first time today too. Seeing the Shore, and especially Seaside on the news this morning was literally heartbreaking.

Praying for you guys! I went through something similar last year with the Springfield, MA tornados and then that crazy snow storm in October! It all seems unreal in the beginning, like a dream/nightmare, but it's really amazing to see how people really come together, help one another out, and before you know it things will begin being rebuilt. Stay safe! I hope all your loved ones are safe and sound!

As you said, so heartbreaking to see all of the places along the Jersey Shore that were my childhood and early adulthood destroyed. Keeping the prayers coming.

i've been cheking your tweets constantly, i'm glad that you and your family are ok, i keep praying for all of you and people in the east coast. I know for experience how frustrating and how terrible a situation like this could be, hang in there, the material things come and go, but what really matters is that you and the people you love are alive and safe, hugs for you
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are ok! I have a lot of friends in NYC who are in more or less stable conditions but the things they tell of their surroundings are devastating!

ReplyDeleteMy family lives in downtown New York and I'm currently at school in California... it's so weird to be away from home with all this going on. The first floor of our apartment building was totally flooded and our car was totally submerged in water and has been totaled. Not to mention, now my family has no electricity or food and it's cold as hell. It's so scary and I just wish I could be with them.

When I heard about the hospital issue, I was so nervous for all those people who had to be transferred. I can't even imagine. I think those would be some of the worst situations. One guy that works with my husband had his aunt-in-law staying with him and she was on an oxygen tank and he was trying to rush home to help her but had to stop and pick up extra tanks in case of problems with Sandy and there was a lot of traffic as it was...but his job made him stay later. . .and when he got to his house through the hurricane she lost oxygen and didn't make it. Granted that story wasn't really because of the hurricane, but he was delayed because of it. I don't know of anyone who personally lost their lives from it (I live in N. NJ). . .but I know of a few people who have relatives, including one who had a father who lost his house in south jersey. It is very sad. Looks like you got power much sooner than I did, which is great. I made a blog post about what we went through, though there are much worse stories.
